About the National Community Service Program
Community service is a department under the Ministry of internal affairs mandated to manage community service orders for purposes of rehabilitating and reintegrating eligible offenders.
A person convicted of a minor offence, the court may, instead of sentencing that person to a term of imprisonment, order the convict to undertake unpaid community work as form of punishment.
Its functions include;
(a) Rehabilitation and reintegration of eligible offenders
(b) Tracking compliance to community service orders
(c) Decongesting remand and correctional facilities
(d) Training and needs assessment for development and implementation of community service
(e) Advocacy
