Fund for War-Affected Children and Youth in Northern Uganda (Uganda Fund): Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Program Coordinator and Transitional Justice Expert




The Fund for War-Affected Children and Youth in Northern Uganda (Uganda Fund) seeks candidates for a consultant position for an upcoming project in Northern Uganda. The project targets war-affected communities where girls and women have suffered from conflict-related SGBV. The overall goal is to provide livelihood opportunities to survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in post-conflict northern Uganda. This project will expand the Uganda Fund’s existing livelihood programs and provide funding and targeted technical assistance to carefully selected local organizations in northern Uganda to substantially increase their capacity to provide new livelihood options and economic opportunities to vulnerable populations of women and girls.

Minimum skills/qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in law, political science/international affairs, international justice, gender and sexuality/women’s studies, or in a related discipline such as social science;
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience working with human rights and justice institutions, civil society and grass-roots organizations with a primary focus on post-conflict recovery and transitional justice, especially in an African setting. High level of knowledge concerning women’s rights and gender equality issues;
  • Solid experience and understanding of transitional justice mechanisms, with an emphasis on reparations in the context of Sexual and Gender-based Violence (SGBV), livelihood enhancement/economic empowerment;
  • Experience in providing technical assistance and capacity building to grass-roots organizations on issues related to transitional justice, SGBV, and reparations;
  • Excellent managerial and operational experience involving coordination with multiple implementing partners;
  • Experience in reviewing grant applications and making grantee selections;
  • Experience in mentoring, coaching and skills transfer to organizations;
  • Experience in developing activity work-plans, budgets, managing implementation, staff and short-term technical assistance;
  • Excellent representational and communication skills, written and oral proficiency in English;
  • Willingness to be based full-time in Gulu with frequent travel with the Northern region;
  • Excellent past performance references.
