Deputy Chief Justice signs the JLOS visitor book
The JLOS Secretariat participated in the 3rd National Court Open Day organised by the Judiciary of Uganda, held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds under the theme “Delivering Inclusive, Efficient and Effective Justice”.
The annual Open Day is a flagship public engagement initiative of the Judiciary aimed at strengthening public engagement, enhancing transparency and improving citizens’ understanding of court services. Court hearings in Kampala were paused for the day to allow judicial officers to participate, while registries remained open to continue essential services.
We were honoured to host the Deputy Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Moses Kazibwe Kawumi, and the Principal Judge, Lady Justice Jane Frances Abodo, at our exhibition booth. Justice Kawumi emphasised that inclusion should be built into the system, noting that ongoing court construction and renovation are taking accessibility for persons with disabilities into account.
This year’s event brought together key Justice, Law and Order Sector institutions, including justices from appellate courts, the Equal Opportunities Commission, NIRA, UHRC, the Law Development Centre, the Uganda Prisons Service, the Uganda Police Force, the Uganda Law Society, and other actors in the justice value chain.
At our booth, we received several visitors seeking to understand the role of JLOS in the justice sector and specifically what the JLOS Secretariat contributes to the chain-linked model of justice delivery. Visitors were guided on how to navigate court processes, raise concerns, and access justice.
The Judiciary also used the platform to highlight ongoing reforms, including the rollout of the Electronic Court Case Management System (ECCMIS), Alternative Justice Systems such as mediation and plea bargaining, and the expansion of High Court circuits to bring justice closer to the people.
